A Michigan pumpkin patch with hay bales, a corn maze and a tractor ride for fall visitors

Eight Michigan Farms Offer Pumpkins, Corn Mazes, Hayrides and Fall Snacks for Family Outings Across the State This October

WASHINGTON, DC — Michigan’s October farm season brings a narrow but popular window for pumpkin picking, corn maze wandering and hayride outings. Across the state, a number of farms combine those fall staples with extra draws like petting barns, giant slides, apple cannons, tractor rides, cider, donuts and fresh-baked treats.

The farms highlighted here range from long-running family businesses to destinations that have grown into large seasonal attractions. Some are geared toward younger children, while others stay open late enough for nighttime visits and group gatherings. Together, they offer a snapshot of how many Michigan families spend autumn weekends outdoors before the weather turns colder.

Beaverton and Casco farms build full fall days around one ticket

The Wild Pumpkin in Beaverton is set up for visitors who want to spend most of the day on the property. The farm says three or four hours can pass quickly, and its fall attractions include pumpkin picking, sunflower picking, a corn pit, a hayloft maze and a large playground with slides.

Corn maze fans can choose between beginner and advanced routes, while a tractor ride passes sunflower fields and corn stalks. The farm also allows dogs, and visitors can stop for hot food, donuts, cider and a farm store. Hours run noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

In Casco, CornFun Corn Maze Adventure and Pumpkin Patch packages a hayride, corn mazes, wildflower picking, a petting zoo and farm games into one admission price. It is closed Monday through Thursday, opens 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends, with free parking on site.

Flushing and Gobles add late nights and bigger thrills to the season

Flushing Farms, just outside Flint, stands out for its unusually long schedule. The farm stays open seven days a week and remains open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, giving families and evening visitors more flexibility than many fall farms.

The property includes two small corn mazes for children and a larger maze of about an acre for those looking for a bigger challenge. Admission also covers bounce houses, hayrides, barrel rides, a flower garden and animals that visitors can feed and pet. A donut of choice and a glass of cider are included, alongside popular snacks such as pumpkin donuts and apple cider slushies.

Harvest Moon Acres in Gobles leans into nighttime fun with Friday evening hours from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday hours until 9 p.m. A hayride through the woods after dark gives the southwest Michigan farm a distinct feel, while the corn maze includes a scavenger hunt to keep children moving from clue to clue.

Long-standing farms in Grand Rapids and Commerce Township lean on family history

Some of the state’s fall destinations are rooted in generations of farming. Ed Dunneback & Girls Farm on the Fruit Ridge near Grand Rapids dates to 1925 and is now a fourth-generation, women-owned Centennial Farm. It offers a tractor ride to the corn maze, along with pumpkin picking and apple picking during October.

The maze is designed to be approachable without feeling too easy, and visitors can choose fun clues as they move through it. The farm also has a market, bakery and on-site restaurant, making it possible to turn a pumpkin stop into a lunch outing. Dogs are allowed, the farm is closed Mondays, and changing tables are available for families with small children.

Long Family Orchard & Farm in Commerce Township has an even older history, with roots going back to 1876. The Oakland County farm is celebrating roughly 150 years in the family, and its weekend Fun Farm includes more than 20 attractions such as a corn maze, hayrides, jumping pillows, slides, pedal karts, a petting farm and apple cannons.

Northville and Charlotte turn pumpkin picking into a bigger group outing

Three Cedars Farm in Northville adds a social element that makes it popular for birthdays and gatherings. Bonfire circles can be reserved for groups, creating a home base for visitors who want to settle in for the evening.

In October, the family-owned farm offers hayrides, a corn maze and pick-your-own pumpkins. Children can also climb hay bales, ride a small train and explore a large playscape, while the petting farm features cows, chickens and pigs. The barn store has souvenirs, and hot dogs, cider and donuts handle the appetite. The farm is open daily, with hours extending to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Country Mill Farms, Bakery, Orchard & Cider Mill in Charlotte combines apple picking and pumpkin picking on one tractor wagon ride. The family farm has welcomed visitors for more than 50 years southwest of Lansing, and its organic orchard adds another layer to the classic fall trip.

Food, parking and timing matter when planning a Michigan fall farm trip

Several of these farms make it easy to spend an entire afternoon by adding food and extra amenities to the usual autumn attractions. Country Mill includes a bakery and cider mill with fresh donuts, cider and indoor seating, while Long Family Orchard sells fresh-pressed cider and hot cinnamon sugar donuts even for visitors who skip the Fun Farm admission.

Ed Dunneback & Girls pairs its farm market and bakery with an on-site restaurant, and Three Cedars Farm has hot dogs, cider, donuts and a barn store. CornFun offers free on-site parking, and Country Mill also provides free parking. Long Family Orchard says buying Fun Farm tickets online saves $2, a small discount for families planning ahead.

For those trying to see the best pumpkin selection, the advice is simple: go early in the month. That gives visitors the best chance at a full patch and enough time to enjoy the season before October slips away.
