Last weekend, November 6th-7th, the Middle School girls basketball team played in the Diamond tournament. Local teams participating included schools such as Sarcoxie, Marionville, Pierce City, and etc. When interviewing the coach, Marty Atnip, we asked what his expectations were going into the tournament. He stated, “ ..going into it I was worried because we were missing our best player. I knew we were going to be competitive but the girls really stepped up their game during the tournament.” This was proved when both the A and B team wound up going undefeated throughout the entire tournament.

The tournament began with A team beating Sarcoxie on Friday night (29-14). They went on to beat Pierce City (23-16). As for B team, they played 2 games on Friday, easily winning both. For the Championship on Saturday, it was Diamond vs. Marionville. Atnip remarked that this was an intense game saying, “In the final game of the A tournament, Diamond was down 6 points at half, coming all the way back and winning by 2 points in the last minutes of the game.” The major highlight of the tournament was Diamond winning the Championship (25-23).
