Capybaras might be one of the most awkward animals on the planet but they also have some pretty interesting facts. In fact, they are the world’s LARGEST rodent with their closest relatives being guinea pigs! They are expert swimmers that can be in the water for up to five minutes. They even sometimes sleep in the water! In the water isn’t the only place you’ll find them though. They are extremely agile on land and can reach speeds up to 23 miles per hour, that’s as fast as a horse! Their large teeth also grow constantly which means they do lots of chewing on twigs and grasses. These large rodents can also weigh as much as an adult human but the females are sometimes larger than the males. The females typically have 3 pups at once but can have up to seven pups at a time. They live in small family groups with about 10 other and one dominant male. The capybara is an all around interesting animals!
